7 ways to hack-secure your smartphone to keep your data safe

We always warn you about the latest cybercrime. Data violations, ransomware and phishing attacks are still in the headings.

It's not just criminals trying to break into our gadgets either. We learned in 2017 that the CIA has been hacking smartphones, TVs and other things to spy on us for years. Knowing that virtually everyone is following our personal information, it is a good idea to take security measures.

Therefore, it's important that you know these seven ways to hack-safe your smartphone to keep your data safe.

1. Update Your Software

One of the most important security precautions that smartphone uses is keeping the operating system (OS) up to date. It's important because when OS security issues are detected, updates are sent that contain updates for these errors.

It is crucial to install OS updates ASAP. Here are the steps to update both Apple iOS and Android OS:

Apple

Enter the Settings "App and select" General . "From there, select" Software Update "and your iPhone will start to check for updates. Then, if an update is available, select" Download and Install . "

Android

Open Settings >> Touch About Phone >> Pointing to System Updates >> If there is an available update, press on Restart and install .

2. Keep Criminals Out Of The Phone

If your phone is stolen, the thief can access all the sensitive data stored in it. This means that it's important to make it so difficult for them to get into it as possible.

Apple

iPhones just used to give you a four-digit password for protection.

Matte it and you will realize that only 1

0,000 password combinations are allowed. Now consider that someone who sees p to you may see the simple combination you use to enter your password. Or, someone who knows you well can guess your four-digit password based on your birthday, street address or other PIN you spend a lot.

Now Apple gives you the opportunity to create stronger alternatives. You can choose from a four-digit numeric code, a six-digit numeric code, a custom numeric code, or a custom alphanumeric code, and iPhone X offers face recognition. These options are safer than the original four-digit option. Settings >> Touch ID and Password (Note: iPhone X will be Face ID and Password) >> Pointing to Enter Password on >> Enter a six-digit password or press Password Selection and select from the options we've listed above >> Type your password again to confirm it and enable it.

Android

Android phones have more choices when it comes to inserting a screen lock. Go to Settings >> Press Security under Personal Section >> Touch Screen Lock . You will see some options to choose from:

  • None – This gives you no lock security.
  • Swipe – Selecting this option is basically the same as it has no lock security. Anyone can unlock your gadget by sweeping the lock screen.
  • Pattern – You can unlock the phone using a specific swipe pattern along a number of points.
  • PIN – Select an invalid social security number.
  • Password – Creating a password specific to the lock screen is an option, but it is the most inconvenient option available.

3. Use your phone to find apps

Losing your phone or stolen it is scary. There is so much personal data stored in what you do not want it to be in the wrong hands. If this unfortunate situation happens to you, it's apps that help you track your gadget.

Apple

Find My iPhone : This is a free app you can download from the App Store. If you lose your phone, you can sign in to your Apple ID account from another device and see a map of where it is. Getting the phone back is great, but the real saving grace is to be able to dry the phone cleanly; This app allows you to delete all phone content and settings.

Android

Android Device Manager : This is a free app you can download from the Google Play Store. If you lose your phone, you can sign in to your Google Account from another device and see a map of where it is. This app also lets you wipe your phone clean, delete all your phone data and reset lock screen password.

4. Just download trusted apps

To download an app, make sure it's from a trusted source. Third-party apps do not go through the rigid security controls that apps found in Google Play Store and Apple App Store do. This means that third-party apps may be harmful and infect your phone with malicious software.

Here are some ways to avoid being infected by a malware:

  • App Stores – Stay away from third-party vendor apps. There have been a few examples of malicious apps in the Google Play Store and Apple App Store, but they are very rare. Third-party app stores make small appetizing, making it easier for fraudsters to spread malware there.
  • Check the app's developer – Verification of the name of the app developer is important. Copycat apps will have a different developer name than the actual. Before downloading an app, do a Google search to find the original developer.
  • Reviews – Most popular apps have reviews of other users in the app store. You can sometimes find reviews of online experts. These are helpful by pointing out malicious or malicious apps. If you find a notification notice, the app is harmful, do not download it.

5. Turn off app notifications

Certain apps always send you alerts like pop-up right on your lock screen. Someone can actually give away private information to everyone in view of your phone.

Think of your messenger app of your choice. If you have a private conversation with someone and they send you a personal message, it will appear right on the lock screen. It may be a conversation that you do not want others around you to see.

You have the option to turn off notifications for all apps on your phone. Apple

Go to Settings >> scroll down to the app you want messages are turned off and select it >> press Messages >> slide the switch to the left next to Allow notifications . Follow these steps for each app you want notifications turned off. Android

Open Settings >> Touch Messages >> Select an App>> Select Block All . Follow these steps for each app you want notifications turned off.

6. Use a password processing

Passwords are critical to keeping your personal data safe. The key is to create hack-proof passwords that criminals will not be able to break. Click here to learn three proven formulas that will help.

If you are like almost everyone else with a laptop, tablet and smartphone, you have so many passwords, it's only impossible to remember them all. In addition, many online accounts require that you frequently change your password.

The problem is, only when you finally remember the complicated, superlong password, you need to change it. So frustrating!

Do not worry, we have a solution to this. They are called password managers and they are very helpful. Instead of remembering many passwords, you only remember one password. When you enter it into your free password processing, it opens up all your saved accounts with their URLs, logins and passwords.

Try KeePass. It is a free open source password processing. Open source just means everyone can go in and tinker with the coding to do better.

7. Configure a VPN when using public Wi-Fi

It's very convenient to beat, shop and post photos and status updates online. That means you do not have to go physically to the bank, shop or travel long distances to catch up with family and friends that can be scattered around the country.

The disadvantage of doing these and other things online is that your information travels through the internet. There is no right shot between you and the site you are using, either. The data can jump through servers around the country or even around the world.

It gives hackers many opportunities to steal your information. If they can grab it during transportation, they can learn your passwords, details about you they should not know, or even pretend to be you to trick your bank or other secure websites.

It's especially true if you're using public Wi-Fi. Hackers on the same network have many tools to snoop on what you do.

To encrypt your connection, you can use a virtual private network (VPN).

A third-party VPN service allows you to create an encrypted connection with one of the servers, and you use that server to browse the internet. The connection is encrypted via the server, so VPN can not see your traffic either. OK, it's a bit more complicated than that behind the scenes, but that's the result.

We recommend that you use our sponsor F-Secure FREEDOME VPN. Simply put, FREEDOME VPN is the easiest and most reliable solution for your privacy and anonymity.
