After an intense tender war, Idris Elba and Simon Kinberg have joined forces on a yet-to-be-titled spy-romance film that has landed on Apple. Elba will play and produce the film, described as a “spy film with romance” in Africa.
Angelique Jackson for Variety:
The new project marks another return to the spy genre for Kinberg, who wrote “Mr. & Mrs. Smith “and has the upcoming spy thriller” 355 “with Jessica Chastain, Lupita Nyong’o, Penelope Cruz, Diane Kruger and Fan Bin Bing set for release by Universal in January 2021.
In July, Variety reported that Elba and his production company Green Door Pictures signed a first contract with the streamer. Under the agreement, Elba and Green Door would produce both series and features for Apple’s streaming platform, Apple TV Plus. Kinberg has his own first glance agreement with the streamer, with a title-free tent pole sci-fi series in the works.
