Photo of Ring
Ring, an Amazon subsidiary that sells home security cameras, has signed secret agreements with police departments around the United States. Vice obtained a confidential agreement between Ring and the police department in Lakeland, Florida, which discloses the details behind these schemes. In exchange for free cameras and access to Ring's Law Enforcement Neighborhood Portal, police departments must agree to appoint officers to market Ring products and encourage community members to download Ring's Neighbors app ̵
It should be noted that the Ring Police Department portal only allows officers to request footage from Ring owners and does not show the exact location of each camera. Regardless, it gives the police departments another opportunity to obtain security camera pictures without warranty.
