Within the northern hemisphere, Animal Crossing: New Horizons fall changes are officially starting to appear on your island on September 1st. You will notice that the small island icon that appears in the lower right corner of the screen during loading times is more yellow in color. In addition, when you shake the island’s trees, you will occasionally find acorns and pinecones.
However, you have to wait until October 1th to see some real changes. This includes the leaves that change color and the start of several autumn events. There are a few new characters not to mention the Halloween and Thanksgiving activities to get excited about. Here comes everything in the free Animal Crossing Fall Update.

The leaves change color
The most obvious change that comes with the Animal Crossing Fall Update is the leaves that change colors. Orange and red canopies will dapple your island while the grass also turns yellow – a stark contrast to the vibrant green we’ve seen for so many months. Nook’s Cranny also changes the decor a bit by laying out pumpkins, a strict autumn leaf and with mushroom vinyls in the windows.

During October, players can buy candy from the green cupboard in Nook’s Cranny. Each piece costs 120 bells and you can only buy and per day. We strongly recommend refilling your candy bar during the month of October, so you’re better prepared to meet Jack on All Hallows Eve.
Halloween costumes and character customization
By buying fancy clothes from Able Sister’s below October you will be able to dress your character in festive attire. In addition, a number of eye colors and body paints are added so that your characters can look more like World War II. This includes things like having blue skin and yellow eyes. Have fun and get your character ready for Halloween!
Grow your own pumpkin patch

Look at the cute little pumpkins! I am very excited to set up my own pumpkin patch in the perfect part of my island. Pumpkin starter can be purchased at Nook’s Cranny Cabinet or from the beginning of the Leif sloth October 1th. You will want to grow more pumpkins before Halloween if you want to make all the Halloween decorations.
New craft materials and DIY recipes
After September 1st, players who have the DIY Recipes app unlocked will receive Tree’s Bounty Little Tree recipe from Isabelle after turning on their games. In addition, she will explain that acorns and pinecones can now fall from the island’s trees. We have also seen from Nintendo’s official trailers that mushrooms will appear on the island as part of the autumn update.
Do you remember your pumpkin patch? Well, if you collect pumpkins, you will be able to make them in different Spooky Pumpkin DIY recipes over the course of October. Take care of your patch so you can get the island completely ready for this scary night.

It’s time to fall in love with Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ changing magazines and upcoming fall characters. I am especially looking forward to the Halloween activities and meeting Jack in person.
Hopefully these fall parties turn out to be a fun change for all the other Animal Crossing players out there.
