Apple acquired Podcasting App Scout FM which creates podcast stations using AI

Up Next - iOS 14

Apple acquired Scout FM earlier this year in an effort to improve podcasting services. The move comes as Spotify, one of Apple̵

7;s most important rivals in the streaming space, has focused heavily on improving its podcasting experience.

While there are a number of podcasting apps in the App Store, the key feature of Scout FM is that it makes listening to podcasts an experience similar to tuning in to a radio station. The service will curate all podcasts according to genre, user listening habits and AI, and then create a podcast station so that users can tune in to them. This is another approach from almost every other podcasting app out there that only gives users a list of podcasts based on genre apart from highlighting the popular podcasts.

Bloomberg notes that Scout FM was popular with iPhone users and also included CarPlay integration along with Alexa support. Apple confirmed the acquisition of Bloomberg, although it did not provide any other details about the acquisition.

Apple is also working on original podcasts that will focus on Apple TV + content, and they also want to get original podcasts.

The podcast space has been heated, with Spotify leading the charge. Apple has also made regular improvements to its Podcasts app with each new iOS release to give users a superior experience.
