Apple announces “Hi, Speed” event for October 13, 2020

Apple’s next product announcement event will be held on October 13, 2020 at 10 PDT. As with the last event, Apple lets you add it to your calendar with one click.

Hi, Speed announcement.

iPhones were completely absent from the “Time Flies” event, which focused on Apple Watch Series 6 and new iPads (see “Apple Unveils Apple Watch Series 6 and Apple Watch SE”

; and “Apple Redesigns iPad Air, Updates Base-Model iPad” 15 September 2020). We do not have a crystal ball, but we will be willing to invest money in at least one new iPhone that debuts at this event. Given that the tagline is “Hello, Speed”, it is possible that the next iPhone will be compatible with high speed 5G mobile networks.

Since Apple also promised Macs built on high-quality Apple silicon before the end of 2020, the “Hi, Speed” keyboard could also suggest an announcement or update on that front (see “Macs that make it ARM with Apple Silicon,” ”June 22, 2020).

Other options include updates to the aging Apple TV series and iPad Pro, which look increasingly longer in the tooth compared to the cheaper but equally capable iPad Air.

Updates to the HomePod and AirPods listings may also be in the cards. Apple recently withdrew Bose, Sonos and other competing audio manufacturers from the store, and gave the rumors that they would unveil a smaller HomePod and Apple-branded headphones in full size.
