Apple announces iPhone 12 event for September 15

Despite Apple confirming a delay in the next iPhone series, expectations for a September event were high. And now it’s official.

Apple on Tuesday announced an event for September 15th. The company confirmed the upcoming event on its official website. The event takes place on Tuesday 15 September 2020 at 10:00 PT / 13:00 ET. Unfortunately, there is no other information given on the invitation to the event, so we do not actually know what to expect.

Of course, it is in line with the course. Apple usually does not reveal what it is going to announce with an invitation to the event. It would probably defeat the purpose. But now we know when to expect the company to unveil new products.

What to expect

iPhone 12

We will probably see the iPhone 12 at this year’s special September event. Based on the rumors, of which there have been many, we will see four new iPhone models unveiled this year. The iPhone 12 has a 5.4-inch screen, while the iPhone 12 Max reportedly boasts a 6.1-inch screen. The iPhone 12 Pro will also have a 6.1-inch screen, while the iPhone 12 Pro Max will increase the screen size to 6.7 inches. Each of the new iPhones will have OLED screens. The Pro models have three rear cameras, while the other two models have a pair of rear cameras.

We can expect to see a LiDAR scanner (which Apple introduced with the iPad Pro this year) also in the Pro models. We’ll probably see a new dark blue color scheme added to the series this year, replacing the Midnight Green option with the iPhone 11 Pro series.

The new iPhones will reportedly have flat edges, a design similar to the iPad Pro and iPhone 5. The new phones also have 5G connectivity, both sub-6GHz and mmWave.

Apple Watch Series 6

And we can expect to see a new Apple Watch debut at this year’s event as well. The rumor mill has been relatively quiet on this front, at least compared to the iPhone 12 series. We have heard that the new Apple Watch Series 6 will have oxygen level detection in the blood. The ECG function embedded in the new smartwatch should generally be improved over what is present in the Apple Watch Series 5.

The overall design of the Apple Watch Series 6 should be similar to the Apple Watch Series 5.
