Apple will post 190 employees from its self-propelled car department in Santa Clara and Sunnyvale, California. The company recognized the move in a letter to the California Employment Development Department this month, and a spokesman confirmed it today with the San Francisco Chronicle.
Most of the employees involved are engineers, including 38 engineering programs, 33 hardware engineers, 31 product designers and 22 software engineers. The cancellations will take effect on April 16 in accordance with the application.[…] Apple's layoffs span eight office and industrial areas: 3000 Kifer Road, 3689 Kifer Road, 5301 Patrick Henry Drive, 2945 San Ysidro Way and 2975 San Ysidro Way in Santa Clara, along with 1150 Kifer Road, 1170 Kifer Road and 195 N. Wolfe Road in Sunnyvale.
For those wondering, yes, these are the same layoffs that CNBC reported last month. Apple's self-propelled car team, often referred to as Project Titan, has been in flux since its inception. The group has seen several rounds of layoffs, restructurings, and in 2016, the focus shifted from electric cars to autonomous systems.
