Apple confirms the ECG feature of Apple Watch Series 4 coming soon to Canada

One of the many standout features of the Apple Watch Series 4 is ECG functionality. This helped make the Series 4 smartwatch one of the most popular iterations of Apple's device to date. But the limited availability has also made it a fixed point.

ECG functionality has been available in the United States for a while now. But for those in selected international markets, it has not yet made its debut. A recent rumor suggests that Apple was planning to bring the feature to Canada soon, but nothing was confirmed so far.

Apple released a statement to The Canadian Press late Friday night, confirming that the Apple Watch Series 4 ECG functionality is coming to the market "as fast as possible". Unfortunately, no specific date for circling the calendar yet.

Apple Inc. confirms that previously announced software that allows its latest smartwatch to perform electrocardiograms received Canadian authentication, but declines to anticipate when it will be available for download.

The company said in a statement to The Canadian Press that it would bring the heart health characteristics of Apple Watch Series 4 to Canada "as soon as possible", but a spokeswoman refused to give an estimated time of arrival.

Health Canada has recently granted Apple a few licenses for ECG-related Apple Watch features, which led to the belief that Apple was planning to roll out the feature in the region at some point in the near future. Apple essentially confirms that it is.

Apple has reportedly been working to secure regulatory approval for ECG functionality in the Smartwatch Series 4 since last September. These things take time, but it sounds like the wait is almost over to those in Canada who have the latest generation of Apple Watch and who have been waiting to use this feature.

The ECG feature allows the Apple Watch to take an electrocardiogram. Users must touch the smartwatch's digital crown for 30 seconds to read, which will give the user a heartbeat rating. Apple Watch Series 4 will then inform the user if it detects irregularities with the heart rhythm.

Further expanding one of the key features of Apple Watch is a good thing. There are still many other markets that Apple needs now and the wait for it may be even longer.
