Apple filed a counterclaim against Fortnite develops Epic Games on Tuesday.
In its response to Epic Games ‘injunction complaint, Apple’s lawyers denied many of Epic Games’ allegations, calling the company’s conduct “intentional, impolite and illegal.”
In a submission to a California district court, Apple Epic slammed an alleged breach of contract after inserting a “Trojan horse” into Fortnite – a direct payment method purchase in the app that went past Apple’s cut of 30 percent.
In strong language, Apple says that Epic’s behavior has threatened the existence of the iOS ecosystem and pushed back against Epic’s self-characterization as a “modern enterprise Robin Hood.”
It states that Epic wants to “reap the benefits of the App Store without paying for them”, and believes that it is “too successful to play by the same rules as everyone else.” Apple says its relationship with Apple has earned Epic more than $ 600 million dollars through in-app purchases.
“Epic’s apparent breach of contractual obligations and other negligence has caused Apple significant harm,” said the filing with Apple’s legal counsel. “Uncontrolled, Epic’s behavior threatens the very existence of the iOS ecosystem and its enormous value to consumers.”
The game developer has claimed in court that Apple is harming competition with its App Store practice, and has asked for a preliminary injunction that will restore Fortnite to the App Store.
A hearing is currently scheduled for later this month.
