According to Apple, a large majority of newer MacBooks users are happy with the butterfly switch keyboard, introduced in 2015. But it's not hard to find users who aren't happy.
Tuesday, along with the announcement of the new MacBook Pros, Apple announced that the company will now resolve any issues with the MacBook keyboard at no cost to the owner. This offer is only available for the following laptops:
- 12-inch Retina MacBook (2015 to 2017)
- MacBook Air (2018)
- 13-inch MacBook Pro (201
- 15 Inch MacBook Pro MacBook Pro (2016 to 2019)
To reduce the downside for the user, Apple said they have shortened the time it takes to perform repairs on the keyboard.
Apple has a support document detailing the Keyboard service application.
Apple also said that the 2019 MacBook Pro features change to the butterfly keyboard mechanism, which should help prevent problems experienced by users, such as black keys or double-tap.
