Some current Apple Music subscribers are starting to review Apple's notice and notify them of a new offer. When dropped, the alert gives these subscribers a gift for a free month with Apple Music access to friends or family via text message.
Apple offers free months trial with a number of reservations related to it.
Namely, the person who receives the offer cannot be an Apple Music subscriber, which means that the offer only applies to those who have not used Apple Music at all or who have previously subscribed to Apple's music streaming service, but who have canceled their membership for some reason. The offer is also in addition to the three month free trial version that Apple offers brand new subscribers.
With that in mind, if someone receives this offer through a text message from a friend or family member and they have not previously been an Apple Music subscriber, they will be eligible for four months of free Apple Music access. According to Apple's terms and conditions of the offer, the free trial, whether one month or three months, will be automatically renewed and transferred to a paid monthly subscription once the trial period ends.
The interesting part here is that Apple seems to use some types of criteria to cherry-pick the people, or types of users, who receive this alert and have the opportunity to give the free month to Apple Music. Not all current Apple Music subscribers get the message, nor does it seem like a place-based initiative either. Still, if you are going to receive the alert, make sure you give the gift of unlimited music playback to someone who really appreciates the movement.
Apple has used several methods like this in the past to market Apple Music and offer extensions for trial. And it seems to work for the business. Apple's music platform boasts 56 million global subscribers in November 2018, and that's probably much more than it is now. The company's marketing tactics usually seem to work. Let's see if a similar tactic is taken, or when the company's video streaming platform is announced next month.
