When Apple introduced its iPhone 12, it let us know that it no longer wanted an AC adapter in the box (or headphones, for that matter). We have all drawers full of them, and production and shipping of literally hundreds of millions of unnecessary and unused power adapters are bad for the environment.
If you think this is bad news, it’s getting worse: this policy extends throughout the iPhone line. As of today, the iPhone 11, iPhone SE and even iPhone XR phones no longer come with power adapters or headphones.
There is some good news, though. All iPhone models now come with USB-C for zipper cables. The USB-A cable, while still being of course supported, has been removed from Apple̵
Also, Apple now sells a 20W USB-C power adapter at a reasonable price of $ 19. It’s not much more than most similar third-party power adapters, and much better than $ 29 Apple used to charge for the 18W USB-C power adapter (which no longer is available). It’s even priced at the 5W USB-A power adapter.
While we may be upset that Apple includes fewer accessories in the box with iPhones (whether we need them or not), we can at least take comfort in the fact that it no longer costs us to buy a good power adapter separately.
