Apple releases new model of USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter 9to5Mac

Apple has quietly released a new version of its USB-C Digital AV Multiport adapter this week. This $ 69 adapter includes a USB-C port, HDMI port and USB-A port, with the new version making several notable improvements.

The new version of the USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter carries the model number A2119, while the old version was model A1621. Apple has also released a new support document that describes the differences between the two.

The new USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter supports HDMI 2.0, an upgrade from the original model's HDMI 1.4b. This means you can now run 4K 3840 x 2160 60Hz video from the following Macs and iPad:

  • 15-inch MacBook Pro introduced in 2017 or later
  • Retina iMac introduced in 2017 or later
  • iMac Pro [19659006] iPad Pro

To take advantage of the 60Hz 4K video, your Mac must run macOS Mojave 10.14.6 or later, while iPad Pro must run iOS 12.4 or later. The previous version of the dongle only supported 4K at 30Hz and 1080p at 60Hz.

Other enhancements with the new USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter include support for HDR video in HDR10 as well as Dolby Vision – as long as you & # 39; broadcast to a compatible playback device and monitor, TV or projector. The functionality of the USB-C port and USB-A port remain the same in the new version.

USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter lets you connect your USB-C-enabled Mac or iPad Pro to an HDMI monitor, while also connecting a standard USB device and USB-C charging cable.

This adapter allows you to mirror the Mac screen to your HDMI enabled TV or monitor. Simply connect the adapter to a USB-C or Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) port on your Mac or iPad Pro and then to the TV or projector via an HDMI cable (sold separately).

Use standard USB port to connect devices like flash drive or camera or USB cable to sync and charge your iOS devices. You can also connect a charging cable to the USB-C port to charge your Mac or iPad Pro.

In connection with the new model, Apple has discontinued the original USB-C Digital AV Multiport adapter, which it first released several years ago. The new USB-C Digital AV Multiport adapter is available for purchase from Apple's online store now, with the earliest shipments arriving by Monday, August 12. It costs $ 69. More affordable options are available on Amazon.
