Apple has recently launched its Smart Battery Case for all the latest iPhones – iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR. You can also use the iPhone XS version with the iPhone X. Over the past two weeks I have used one on my iPhone XS Max, and while it may just be another battery case, this is probably one of my favorite accessories for the iPhone .
The case itself is similar to what we get from Apple's silicone bags. It is a soft microfiber lining inside with a soft-touch silicone on the outside. At the back you will find the larger battery.
iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max Smart battery pack packs a two-cell 1,369mAh battery with a power of 10.1W. The case itself can charge with or without the device inside and recharges through the lightning gate at the bottom of the case, so there is no need for an extra cable to carry around.
Use only the Quick Cable you use to charge your iPhone. It also supports Qi wireless charging and fast charging. Fast charging is one of my favorite features in this case because of the ability to recharge from 0-50% in around 30 minutes.
Remember that you must have certain wall adapters and a new USB-C for lightning cable. Although Apple does not go into detail on fast charging, I did some testing when I recharged this case. The case is designed to first charge your iPhone, then your case. This depends on which charger you use though.
In the video review embedded below, you will find more elaborate information about which charger you might use to charge your case or both the iPhone and Smart battery cover. You can also check out the smart features that you don't get in other third-party battery cases.
Overall, the case has made its purpose and significantly increases the battery on my iPhone. The iPhone XS Max has good battery life as it is, but using this can put me through an hour and a half before I need to recharge my iPhone again.
