In a not-so-surprising move, Apple expands Apple TV + subscriptions through February 2021. Here’s Matthew Panzarino on TechCrunch:
Apple told me today that it will extend the AppleTV + subscriptions ending November 1, 2020 to January 31, 2021 to the February 2021 billing date.
The basic situation is that Apple gave away a free year with AppleTV + to new device buyers last year, and they are ready to end in November. Apple knows that everyone is still looking at a tough winter ahead filled with COVID-related restrictions, so it will encounter these subs by February.
The short version of this story is actually that Apple intended to have the other seasons of all its top-line shows ready by the fall, just as the free subscription expired – but COVID-19 has led to many delays and much thinner programming slate. It’s smart for Apple to keep people on Apple TV + in the meantime.
