Apple Watch, iPhone and MapMyWalk / MyFitnessPal: AppleWatch

I hope this will make sense because I can't figure out how to correct it. Hopefully someone can help me troubleshoot.

So I use MapMyWalk and MyFitnessPal (both underarm applications). I used to only have an iPhone that tracks my movements. Now I also have an Apple Watch.

When I track my workouts now (either using the Apple Watch Workouts app or the Underarmour Workout app) on the clock, I get credit. But then something strange happens.

I get deductions from my calories because (I guess?) It compares my workout to the workout. (Looks like my phone never moved, and so how could I have got credits?)

For example, I went on a trip this morning and got a 200 calorie credit. I just had time with me.

When I returned to the house, the apps all synchronized, and I saw my calorie credit, but then I saw a bigger calorie draft (it had the little phone icon next to it). So even though I had earned 200 calories (on the clock), I was drawn 300 (by phone). I ended up with total daily calories less than when I started. Ha ha. This, even though I have not logged in any meals or eaten anything.

Does anyone know what to do? Should I just disconnect the iPhone as a tracking mechanism and just rely on clock data forward?
