It’s been a busy morning for Apple News, and the company has officially announced its September 15 event, which will reportedly be focused solely on Apple Watch and iPad announcements. Apple has also released a YouTube placeholder stream for the September event, and it contains a clear reference to the Apple Watch Series 6.
In the metadata for the September event YouTube live stream, Apple includes a number of keywords that they are trying to target. Many of these are fairly standard, including “Apple Watch”, “iOS” and “iPhone.” One of the keywords stands out from the rest: “Apple Watch Series 6.”
There is also a reference to the “iPad Air”, but since this is a product already sold by Apple, it is difficult to determine if it is a reference to the infamous iPad Air 4 we expect to see this year. Apple is also targeting the keyword “iPhone”, but we do not expect new iPhone hardware at the September event.
Apple never confirms the naming of future products before release, but this metadata actually provides that confirmation. This discovery, first made by 9to5Mac’s Gui Rambo, follows a report from Bloomberg which indicated the September 15 event, will focus on announcements from the Apple Watch and iPad instead of news about the iPhone 12.
Apple Watch Series 6 is expected to have new health tracking features, such as blood oxygen levels and improved ECG capabilities. Apple is reportedly also preparing a lower Apple Watch to replace the aging Apple Watch Series 3.
