Blockchain company OneLedger has chosen Windsor as the father to launch a test of its international healthcare concept.
The health pass concept is aimed at helping people open the border between the USA and Canada and the economy for important employees through a secure smartphone app, reads a new report from Windsor Star.
“There will be another tool in the arsenal of things to help the border open safely and securely,” said Noah Campbell, Tech Community Program Manager for the Windsor-Essex Economic Development Corporation and WEtech Alliance.
“It will make it easier for key health and industry workers to cross the border in a safe and secure manner that will help stop the spread of COVID-19.”
OneLedger, based in Toronto, says they expect to have the app ready for testing within two weeks, and hopes to officially launch the app early in the fourth quarter of 2020.
Public agencies are particularly interested in the platform, as opening the border safely is of paramount importance at the moment. OneLedger is reportedly in discussions with various partners studying ways to improve border efficiency and security.
“We have seen many applications released under COVID19 for tracking and tracing, all of which are reactive and try to detect who a person came in contact with after they had already received COVID,” said Aly Kassam, Product Manager at OneLedger.
“None of these help to reopen the economy, none of them have a proactive approach, and that is what we are trying to solve. We are trying to get back to a new normal. ”
By using OneLedger’s proprietary blockchain service, users’ sensitive health information will be secure. The platform will also be compatible with existing government systems, but will only allow officials to access the most basic and relevant health data.
“Border guards will only get yes or no answers to certain questions as if your vaccines have been updated, you have tested positive and they will not have access to existing conditions,” Campbell said.
“It will be a tool that helps them know that you are good to go.”
