Can I connect a Thunderbolt 3 monitor to a MacBook Pro's Thunderbolt 2 port? : mac

I have a 2014 MacBook Pro with a Thunderbolt 2 port. If I buy a monitor that has a Thunderbolt 3 port and a couple of USB-A ports as well. I wonder if I have a keyboard and mouse connected to the monitor, if I can use a TB3> TB2 cable from the monitor to MBP, and be able to transfer:

  1. Video output to the monitor

  2. USB data from monitor hub (Mouse / keyboard)

Initially, the TB3 screen will be used primarily with my 2018 MBP via a single cable TB3-TB3 solution for power / video / data, but wondered what solution I needed for the entire setup to work on my wife's older MBP from 201

4 which has a TB2 port.
