Confirmed iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro features based on leaks

Apple iPhone 12 Pro renders all Apple Pro

Apple is expected to announce its iPhone 12 series later this month. The company has had to delay the launch of the iPhone 1

2 this year by a few weeks due to the ongoing pandemic, but that does not mean that the phones will not be impressive though. If the leaks are anything to go by, the upcoming iPhones will be very impressive. Ahead of Apple’s announcement, here’s an overview of how the leaks indicate that the iPhone 12 will be.

Just like every year, leaks tell us a lot about the upcoming iPhones. Also this year, leaks and reports have detailed almost everything about the iPhone 12 series, but this time we have not seen detailed CAD reproductions of the devices leaking that will reveal their design in full. Nevertheless, below are the confirmed features of the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro series according to leaks and rumors.

Confirmed iPhone 12 features

Smaller iPhone 12 mini, larger iPhone 12 Pro Max

This time, Apple is launching four new iPhone models instead of three. It will launch the devices in different screen sizes to cater to the different tastes of the consumers. This includes a 5.4-inch iPhone 12 mini that will delight many existing iPhone 7 and iPhone 8 owners who want a more powerful device in a compact form factor. Apart from this, there will be a 6.1-inch iPhone 12 that will replace the existing iPhone 11.

Then there will also be a Pro series of iPhone 12 that includes a 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Pro and 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max. The former replaces the existing 5.8-inch iPhone 11 Pro and the latter replaces the 6.5-inch iPhone 11 Pro Max. The larger screen on the iPhone 12 Pro Max will again tempt many customers who have wanted an iPhone with an even larger screen.

The name form of the lineup – iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max – has also been pretty much confirmed by various leaks.

Comparison of size of iPhone 12

New iPad Pro-like design

Apple is expected to debut a new iPad Pro-like design for the entire iPhone 12 series this year. Instead of the rounded edges we’ve seen in recent years, the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro will have a square chassis design similar to the new iPad Pro and reminiscent of the iPhone 5s era. The design of the unit itself will not change much as the notch will remain the same and the rear glass panel will also look the same. However, the new chassis design should greatly change the feel of the hand for the upcoming iPhones.

Just like in recent years, the more expensive iPhone 12 Pro models have a stainless steel chassis, while the cheaper iPhone 12 models have aluminum edges.

New screen sizes

Since Apple plans to launch four new iPhone 12 models this time, it also sets them apart from screen sizes. The standard iPhone 12 series will consist of 5.4-inch iPhone 12 mini and 6.1-inch iPhone 12. As for the Pro series, it starts with the 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Pro and ends with the top 6 , 7-inch iPhone. 12 Pro Max.

By comparison, Apple currently offers the iPhone 11 / Pro series in 5.8-inch, 6.1-inch and 6.5-inch screen sizes. So with the iPhone 12 series, the company intends to not only launch a more compact and premium iPhone than the iPhone SE (2020), but also one with a larger screen. The new 5.4-inch iPhone 12 will tempt many existing iPhone 7 and iPhone 8 owners who are looking for a more compact device with updated internal and improved cameras. The larger 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max should also attract many potential customers, with a report even saying that most Apple engineers found the larger screen a bigger change than the addition of 5G in testing.

Unfortunately, there will not be 120Hz ProMotion screens on the iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro series, contrary to previous rumors. Recent reports have anything but confirmed that this will not happen this year.

A14 Bionic

Apple tends to debut a new A-Series chipset with new iPhones every year. This year, however, the company has already debuted the A14 Bionic inside the iPad Air, which is scheduled to be sold later this month.

The same chip will also get into the iPhone 12 series. Apple says that the A14 Bionic has 11.8 billion transistors, and that it is based on a 5 nm manufacturing process. The 6-core CPU on the chip provides 40 percent performance, while the 4-core GPU provides a 30 percent performance jump. Neural Engine has also been given a big boost and can now boast 16 cores that make it twice as fast as before. Finally, second-generation ML 10 increases machine learning calculations.

In short, the A14 Bionic is again a monster of a chip, and the iPhone 12 will set new records in performance as well as efficiency. The faster Neural Engine and ML accelerator give the apps that rely heavily on them for complex calculations a big performance boost. It will also open the door for developers to create even more powerful apps for the platform.

Rumor has it that the iPhone 12 will continue to come with 64 GB of basic storage, but Apple will double the storage space to 128 GB on the iPhone 12 Pro series.

5G

iPhones have always lagged behind flagship Android smartphones when it comes to connectivity. With the iPhone 12 series, Apple does not want to repeat the same story, as it will add 5G connectivity on all four models. It is rumored that the cheaper iPhone 12 not only supports sub-6 GHz connectivity, with iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max is expected to support both mmWave and sub-6GHz 5G.

Since mmWave 5G is not available in all regions, Apple apparently plans to launch the model in select markets only where mmWave 5G networks are actually available. There are also rumors that Apple is holding mmWave 5G exclusively for the iPhone 12 Pro Max only, since only this device has the necessary internal space to accommodate the antenna.

Camera

With the iPhone 11 series, Apple introduced a big leap in image processing that once again brought the iPhone’s camera performance in line with other Android flagships. Apple is again expected to provide major improvements in camera performance with the iPhone 12 series. There are rumors that the company is using a larger camera sensor on its upcoming iPhones that will lead to an improvement in dynamic range and low-light images. Alleged screenshots from the iPhone 12 Pro also show that the device offers 4K video recording at 120 frames per second and an enhanced low light mode.

What has been confirmed is that we will not see any phone camera on the iPhone 12 models this year. Nevertheless, the iPhone 12 series is expected to make a remarkable leap in image processing again.

LiDAR scanner

With a hint of the 2020 iPad Pro series, it is expected that Apple will also include a LiDAR scanner on the upcoming iPhone 12 series. With the rumors, Apple will keep the LiDAR scanner exclusive to the iPhone 12 Pro series, with the cheaper iPhone 12 models missing out on this 3D scanner. The LiDAR scanner will allow Apple to offer some advanced AR features on the iPhone 12 Pro series. Apple has invested heavily in AR in recent years, and with the iPhone 12 Pro and LiDAR scanner, we should finally see the end results of the work.

No power adapter and EarPods

Once in a few years, the iPhone launch ends with some controversy. When Apple pulled the headphone jack with the iPhone 7 in 2016, it managed to create a similar controversy. With the iPhone 12 series, it is rumored that Apple will remove the power adapter and EarPods from the detail box of the iPhone 12 series. Removing Lightning EarPods may not bother most consumers, but the lack of an AC adapter in the box will definitely annoy many consumers.

Apple has already removed the power adapter with the Apple Watch Series 6 and Apple Watch SE with reference to environmental reasons, thus confirming the intentions to do the same with the iPhone 12 series. Reports also say that Apple is also removing this accessory from the box to reduce BOM and maintain profit margins that have been affected by the addition of various expensive 5G components.

There is a possibility that Apple will end up removing the power adapter from only the cheaper iPhone 12 series, with the more expensive one possibly coming with a 20W USB-C power adapter that the company now also packs with the new iPad Air.

Release Date for iPhone 12

In a non-corona world, the iPhone 12 would have already hit stores. However, due to the pandemic, the development of the iPhone 12 was affected, which led to Apple delaying the launch of the lineup by a few weeks. Rumor has it that the iPhone 12 series will be announced by Apple on October 13, with the cheaper iPhone 12 series to be pre-ordered on October 16 and hitting stores a week later. As for the iPhone 12 Pro series, they are expected to launch in late October or early November.

What do you think of the iPhone 12 based on all the leaks? Are you planning to buy one? If so, which variant?
