Millions of Americans use the Bluetooth feature on their smartphones, laptops, and portable devices several times a day. Many leave Bluetooth all day.
It's something we don't think much about, but new research has found that in some devices an error in how Bluetooth features can allow hackers to track you. It makes Bluetooth an open door that allows hackers to detect sensitive personal information.
Read on to find out what the Bluetooth error is and how your devices are being hacked. We also provide tips on what to do to protect your gadgets.
Hacking into Bluetooth
The high technology that aims to prevent Bluetooth being tracked and hacked is the only one that can make your devices vulnerable. To avoid tracking, Bluetooth continuously changes identifying tokens and uses random MAC addresses.
Researchers at Boston University found that the identification token and random MAC address changes are not synchronized at the same time. Under the layers between the synchronization, hackers can use an unchanged identifying token to grab the new incoming address.
At that time, hackers can't just follow the device, but they can also get information about their identity and user activity. This error was
If this error is not resolved, hackers can eventually combine purchase transactions, face recognition, and other sensitive information with the device's tracking data to create a profile for the user.
The only way to fix this error is to ensure that the changes to the identity tokens and the MAC addresses are synchronized. But don't expect Apple or Microsoft to move quickly to the problem.
The researchers presented their findings to the two companies in November 2018. None of the companies have taken steps yet to fix the error, which is a good idea since Apple's IOS 11 had a major security issue with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth features.

The Bluetooth error is found on Windows 10, iOS and macOS devices. These devices include iPhones, iPads, Apple Watch models, MacBooks, as well as Microsoft tablets and laptops. Unlike Windows and Apple products, Androids is immune to this error because they are not actively and continuously tracking the device while in Bluetooth mode.
Just because Apple and Microsoft aren't taking action on this error doesn't mean you can & # 39; t Protect Yourself For IOS and MacOS devices, simply turn on and off Bluetooth. It breaks the communication chain that the hacker tries to lock on. This is a temporary solution until the error is resolved permanently, hopefully, it's not that far down the road.
It's not that easy for Microsoft devices that use Windows 10. Go to the Settings panel and turn Bluetooth on and off It doesn't work, since it only pauses the communication chain.
To break the chain, users must completely disable the Bluetooth feature using Windows Device Manager and then activate it.
Devices using Bluetooth are expected to grow from 4.2 billion to 5.2 billion between 2019 and 2022. When you consider how many millions of gadgets this Bluetooth bug affects now and could in the future, you think Microsoft and Apple would come right on it.
Maybe they take a gamble as hackers aren't smart enough or fast enough to exploit the error. It's not a gamble we'd be willing to take.
