Everything you need to know about Gym in Pokemon Sword and Shield

Pokemon Sword and Shield is on its way, and if you've kept up with the Pokemon games recently, you might be wondering if the gyms will come back after their short absence in our time in the latest generation Alola region. It turns out they are returning, but with some notable differences on how they have been handled earlier.

Explore Galar in Pokemon Sword

Pokémon Sword is one of the two versions of the next main series release of a Pokemon game, with less Pokemon and other differences from the opponent, Shield. You will explore the British based Galar region, capture Pokemon, and turn to the Champion Cup to earn the title of Pokemon Master.

Pokémon Shield is the second version of the next main series release of a Pokemon game, with less Pokemon and other differences from the opponent, Sword. You will explore the British based Galar region, capture Pokemon, and turn to the Champion Cup to earn the title of Pokemon Master.

If you are curious about Pokemon Gyms and their function in Pokemon Sword and Shield, here's all we know about them so far:

What are training studies?

In the Pokemon series, training sites are places around the region where you will test your Pokemon combat skills against a particularly powerful Pokemon trainer or gym manager. The gym is usually devoted to a single type of Pokemon (Grass, Water, Fire, etc.) And often (but not always) includes puzzles, obstacle courses, and other less powerful coaches to defeat before being allowed to challenge the gymnast.

Defeat of the leader of the training is mandatory to develop the story, and almost all regions of the Pokemon universe have eight training students to challenge before you can face the ultimate test in the Pokemon League. When you win at a gym, you get a training mark to mark your progress, and often a special technical machine (TM) to teach your Pokemon a new move.

What's different from exercise machines in Pokemon Sword and Shield? 19659015] There seem to be some indications that coaches in Pokemon Sword and Shield will be slightly different than those we have seen in previous games. It makes sense if the Game Freak tries to change the formula, as Pokemon Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon did not have any gym at all – they had trials instead!

Although we do not know specifics about differences yet, we can tell from trailers that Pokemon Gym Leader battles in shields and shields take place in huge stadiums with crowds to watch. It still seems to be coaches to defeat before you can challenge the training leaders, and the gyms still seem to be focused around a single Pokemon type.

We also know that because Gym Leader matches take place in stadiums, it is possible to Dynamax your Pokemon inside (and also possible for the Gym Leader for their Dynamax!). You also get to wear special clothes, including choosing a number to wear on the back of the jersey while fighting.

What is Dynamaxing?

Dynamaxing is a new mechanic entered into the Pokemon Sword and Shield that effectively makes your Pokemon giant temporarily giving them states an increase and change of their move temporarily. It lasts three turns and can only be made to one Pokemon once per game.

Dynamaxing cannot be done in every match – only in special battles in some places, including stadiums where exercise equipment is held. The gym managers will also be able to Dynamax's Pokemon, so you will carefully choose when and which Pokemon to Dynamax to fight them!

Who are training leaders we know so far?

The following training leaders have

  • Milo (Grass): Eldegoss
  • Nessa (Water): Drednaw
  • Messages for Pokemon Sword and Shield:
Only sword – Bea (Fighting): Hitmontop
  • Only shield – Allister (Ghost): Mimikyu
