Most of us already know that the killer tab on the internet is an email. No, not because we like e-mail. It's the killer app because we hate it so much that our rage and anger and anxiety could kill us (at least email gets blood pressure to rise).
So what do you want to say to a free Mac tool that helps reduce the time for processing incoming email? Good, right? And it's also free. Better, right? It's the story behind Remove duplicate mail messages.
Other than fear factor followed by a sense of relief, it's not much to remove duplicate messages. It's a free AppleScript that does nothing but scan messages in Mail by examining the headings for MessageID, Subject, From, and Date. It is usually all that is needed to determine if a message has a duplicate somewhere in the mail inbox. You get more scanned, flagged and deleted duplicates, so there are fewer messages for you to sort through, thus reducing your blood pressure and saving you some time.
What is the catch?
It's a visual thing. Remove duplicate messages is an AppleScript that makes the effort to find and delete duplicate emails. Here is an overview of the developer's website. Do not let the pirate-like skull and throat trick you.
JollyRoger.Kicks-Ass.org may seem like a weird name choice for a site dedicated to a long list of software tools, but that's the case. For Remove Duplicate Messages, you must search through the list of tools, find it titled Remove Duplicate Messages-Mail 1.1.2.zip Download it, unzip it and follow the Read me instructions. It's all good.
