I have reviewed a number of iPhone game controllers, and they often come up short in one area or another. GameSir may have found the right mix with the interestingly named G6 Mobile Gaming Touchroller ($ 42.99) . The company sent me this controller, and right away I could tell it was different. Most controllers are designed to mimic PlayStation and Xbox controllers with joystick or diamond pad buttons on either side. The "touch roll" leaves the right side free of such buttons. This asymmetrical design makes it easier to use the right thumb or other finger to access the touch screen. In addition, it leaves the Lightning port fully open for charging or connecting the headset.

This is a smart idea, as not all apps are designed to work with Bluetooth hardware buttons; so I'm glad they embraced this hybrid approach and made the touch screen available. The device expands and contracts horizontally to accommodate different sized iPhones, resulting in an overall compact design. The device has up to 80 hours of battery life, is lightweight and has a soft rubbery surface for longer gaming sessions. It still uses microUSB to charge the G6, so there is another cable you must remember to bring.
