Google shuts down the Nest app for the Apple Watch and Wear OS

People take control of their smart thermostat from their wrists so rarely that Google has decided to completely scratch their Nest app for both Apple Watch and its own Wear OS platform. The Smartwatch Nest app provided a quick way to adjust the thermostat's target temperature or operating mode. But now it only shows a "Nest is no longer supported on the Wear OS" message when it opens and instructs its customers to uninstall it.

"We took a look at users of Nest apps on smartwatches and found that only a small number of people used it," a Google spokesman said 9to5Google . "Moving our team will spend more time focusing on delivering high-quality experiences through mobile apps and voice interactions."

Is this some monumental loss? No, not really. You can still just pull out your phone and do the same things (and more) with the Nest mobile app on Android and iOS. Alerts from the Nest smartphone app continue to appear on your watch. In addition, anyone with a Wear OS watch can use Google Assistant to control Nest devices with their voice. Apple Watch owners do not have that fall, however.

So even Google has completed one of its own Wear OS apps ̵

1; one that was a great example of a smartwatch's convenience – just not worth the effort anymore. It adds even less effort to supporting Apple Watch, with 9to5Google and notes that Google Keep is the company's latest remaining watchOS app.
