First person shooter Paladins was a nice surprise when it was officially released for Mac earlier this year.
New shooters who support MacOS are rare and get an excellent shoot that also happens to be free to play was extra special. No wonder it easily served somewhere among the best FPS games for Mac.
This was the reason that it was particularly disappointing when users noticed that the game no longer supported MacOS on Steam. This seemed to come out of nowhere, and everyone assumed the worst: the developer Hi-Rez Studio simply decided that it was not worth its time.
I went to Hi-Rez Studios and I'm happy to report that things are not what they look like.
Paladins for Mac struggles because of Mojave
The guys at Hi-Rez Studios were nice enough to respond to me in record time. They confirmed that they had temporarily removed the MacOS version of the game due to an error appearing on Mojave, the latest MacOS release:
You can read all about the problem on their Reddit posts. More importantly, though, they finally managed to solve the problem and the MacOS version should be over.
10/9 editors: We have released an update that resolves the macOS Mojave Mouse issue. Thank you for your patience, and welcome back to Realm.
The game still lacks the MacOS logo on Steam, but it will appear soon.
Paladins on the Mac: All You Need to Know
Paladins is a team-based shooter that has a varied game of masters, ranging from goblin riding mechs to mysterious elves. You can customize your master to fit your style using a deckhouse and choose from hundreds of different leather to make your master unique.
Paladin's gameplay is very similar to Blizzard's world-famous Overwatch. What in itself is a compliment and because Overwatch does not come to MacOS anytime soon, Paladins is a must if you are in first-person shooters.
In addition, we mentioned that Paladins is free of charge? The game is technically free to play, but anything that affects the game can be unlocked by playing while cosmetic items can be purchased.
Developed by Hi-Rez Studios, same team behind Smite, Paladins is a relatively demanding game with the following system requirements:
- OS: OS X 10.10
- Processor: 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo
- Memory: 2 GB RAM
- Graphics: ATI Radeon 3870 or higher, Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT or higher with 512 MB RAM or better
- Storage: 10 GB free space
The upcoming Paladins: Battlegrounds, a brand new battle royal mode , does not support MacOS yet, and the Mac game environment has worried. The mode is still in beta and everything can change, but many people wonder why MacOS support can not be included from get-go.
Before jumping to conclusions, I suggest you only give Paladins a try, especially if you
