How do I count the number of cells in a row of cells that also contain letters?

I have a series of cells that contain letters and numbers. For example, one cell may contain “A 3” and another cell may contain “DG 2”. Is there a way to sum the numbers in these cells in another single cell? I have tried to do it with REGEX.EXTRACT according to the tutorial where you extract the numbers only in a single cell. However, I hope I can do that with more cells and then add the numbers to a total value in another cell.

I try to get a score for a linked comparison table where the options I compare are marked alphabetically and each comparison gets a score of 1

-3. So if I compare option A with option B and I like option A better, I put A in the cell. If I like alternative A significantly more than alternative BI, give it a score of 3 (then “A 3”), and if I like alternative A only slightly better than alternative BI, give it a score of 1 (then “A 1” ). The score 2 is also possible. If I like both options equally, I simply set a 0.
