How to change the homepage in Safari 14 for macOS

For macOS, Safari 14 Home is a great way to start a browsing session. It gives you quick and easy access to the links in the favorite field, frequently visited websites, a privacy report, the reading list and the iCloud tabs. You can also set a wallpaper to give it some personality.

However, the home page customization tools are limited. You can only include or exclude the categories listed above as a whole. However, adjusting the settings can make the home page less cluttered and easier to navigate.

Here is an explanation of each category on the home page:

  • Favorites: This shows the sites you have placed in your favorite field.

  • Frequently visited: A set of sites you visit often.

  • Privacy report: Displays a summary of the number of tracking attempts made. You can click on it and get more detailed information.

  • Siri Suggestions: Suggestions for sites for you based on your searches.

  • Reading list: Displays a set of web pages you have recently added to your reading list.

  • iCloud tabs: A list of sites you̵

7;ve visited on other Macs, iPhones, and all iPads connected to your Apple ID. Move the cursor over the header and you can switch between devices.

  • Wallpaper: You can set a wallpaper for the home page. Apple provides a small selection of images to choose from. Clicking the + icon opens a window showing the contents of the Desktop Images folder in the macOS library. You can select an image here, or navigate to your own image.

How to remove / add categories to the home page

The home page settings are not in Safari > Preferences. On the home page, look at the bottom right of the browser window. You’ll find a settings icon, and if you click on it, a pop-up window will appear listing the tabs and checkboxes. By default, all tabs are checked to appear on the page. Uncheck all the boxes you do not want on the home page, and check the boxes you want.
