Home Sharing is an easy way to connect content between Mac computers and Apple TV. You can access music, movies, audiobooks, and more from your iTunes library on your desktop or laptop without being connected to iCloud. That's how you do it.
How to configure Home Sharing on your Mac
Before sharing content with Apple TV, you must first turn on Home Sharing on your Mac.
- Open iTunes on your Mac .
Select File from the menu bar at the top left of the computer screen.
- Select Home Sharing .
Click Turn on home sharing on .
- Enter the email address and password associated with your Apple ID.
Click Turn on Home Sharing .
You can now share content from your Mac on any other Mac or Apple TV that has home media turned on and signed with same Apple ID.
How to configure Home Sharing on macOS Catalina
With iTunes divided into new apps Music, TV and Podcasts on macOS Catalina, Home Sharing activates differently.
- Open System Preferences .
Click Sharing .
- Click Media Sharing .
Click on the checkbox next to Home Share .
- Enter your Apple ID password if prompted to do so.
Click Turn on home sharing .
Apple TV will now be able to see the libraries of both the music and Apple TV apps. Remember that Apple TV only sees the things you downloaded directly to your Mac.
How to configure Home Sharing on Apple TV
Make sure the Apple ID you use to sign in to Home Sharing on Apple TV is the same as you use on your Mac.
- Open the Settings app on Apple TV .
Select Accounts .
- Select Home Sharing .
Select Turn on Home Sharing .
- Enter the Apple ID you use to turn on home media on your Mac or verify that Apple ID associated with Apple TV is the one you want to use.  Enter the password associated with Apple ID.
Select OK .
How to find content from your Mac on Apple TV with home media
When your computer is connected to Apple TV, you can access to content directly via the computers app.
- Open the Computer app on your Apple TV .
- Select a content category as movies, music or photos.  Select a file you want to play or watch.
