How to record a phone call on your Mac

For a variety of reasons, you may want to record a FaceTime call on your Mac. (I like to record those talking to my grandson!) How to do it:

Open QuickTime on your Mac from the Applications folder. Or you can use MacOS LaunchPad. Or – my favorite method –

; you can tell Siri to "Open QuickTime."

Click File in the menu bar.

Click New Screen Recording.

  QuickTime Player File Menu Screenshot

Click the arrow next to the record button in the QuickTime window.

Select Internal microphone from the list of available microphones.

Open FaceTime. Its icon should be in the Dock. If not, it is in the Applications folder. Or you can use MacOS LaunchPad. Or tell Siri to "Open FaceTime."

Click the recording button in QuickTime.

Click on the screen to record the entire screen, or click and drag across the FaceTime window to just register FaceTime.

Start FaceTime ring.

When the call is over, click the Stop recording button in QuickTime.

Click File in the menu bar.

Select Save.

Named your recording and choose where you want to save it.

Click Save.
