How to replace RAM in 27-inch iMac



In recent years, Apple has made it increasingly difficult for users to replace parts on their Macs. Apple allows iMac Retina 5K users to replace RAM (memory) on their computers, but only on the 27-inch model, not the 21.5-inch model.   7. Push the two levers on the left and right sides of the memory cage to release it.

  8. After you delete the memory card, pull the memory lock handles toward you. This gives you access to the four DIMM slots.
  9. Remove existing DIMM (s) by pulling the module / modules straight up and out.
  10. Replace or install a new DIMM by inserting it into the slot and pressing firmly until you feel the DIMM clicks into the slot. Insert the DIMM with notches on the bottom, properly oriented.

  11. Repeat step 10 to install all your new DIMs .
  12. After installing all your DIMMs, push the memory levers back into the housing until they click into place.

  13. Replace the memory field the door.
  14. Place the computer in its upright position.
  15. Connect the wires to your Mac.

When you turn on your Mac, it will perform a memory customization procedure. During this time, the iMac remains dark. Make sure the memory initialization is completed.

Confirm the new memory number

To confirm that the iMac recognizes the new memory:

  1. Click the Apple logo in the upper left corner of the screen.
  2. Click About This Mac .

  5. Finally, select Memory under the hardware section on the left side of System Information.
