How to share your position through family sharing



Family Sharing opens up several new possibilities such as sharing purchases, subscriptions and configuring the Apple Watch. It also allows you to easily share location with other family members. This helps you make sure your kids are in the right place, find family members’ devices and more. Let’s go straight in and show you how to share your position with others through family sharing.

Before you begin: Make sure you have set up Family Sharing.

How to share your current position through family sharing

  1. To open Settings app and press Privacy.
  2. Press Location services.Open Settings Tap Privacy and then Tap Location Services on iPhone
  3. Press Share my location.
  4. First, make sure the switch is on Share my location is green. Then, under FAMILY, tap the member’s name.
  5. Finally, press Share my location.Enable location sharing through family sharing on iPhone

After this, the family member will receive a notification that reads’John started sharing location with you. Do you want to share yours?‘If they press and hold the alert, a popup with useful options will appear. They can choose to share the site with you too, or tap Do not share. What happens after you share the place with a family member?

Once you’ve shared your location, your family member can see your device location in Find My App on their device running iOS 13 or later or Apple Watch with watchOS 6 or later. If they use iOS 12 or any previous version up to iOS 8, they must use the Find My Friends app.

Tips: For members who do not share their location, will not tap on the device in Find my app load the map. You will also see the text “Do not share location.”

Share location with a family member for just an hour or a day?

Choose another device to share your location from?

Apple clearly states that ‘by default, the device you used to sign in to Family Sharing is the one that shares your location.’ In our example, the location is shared via iPhone. But if desired, the iPad or my other iPhone (with the same Apple ID) can be used to share the site instead. This is how.

  1. To open Settings app on your other iPad or iPhone.
  2. Press Privacy β†’ Location services β†’ Share my location.Tap Privacy Select Location Services and then tap Share My Location in Settings on iPad
  3. Press Use this iPad as my location. After this, next to My Location, you will see “This Device.”Tap Use this iPad as My Location Change device to share location

How to stop sharing your position through family sharing

Location sharing is useful. When the family organizer activates location sharing in Family sharing, his / her location is automatically shared with all family members. However, if you want privacy, Apple makes it easy to disable location sharing with family members. This is how.

  1. To open Settings app. Scroll down and press Privacy.
  2. Press Location services β†’ Share my location.
  3. Tap the desired family member name and select Stop sharing my position.Tap family member, then tap Stop sharing my location to disable location sharing through family sharing on iPhone

Note: If you turn off the switch for Share my location (shown above FAMILY in step 2), then it hides your position from all your family members as well as approved friends.

How to enable and disable location sharing via Family Sharing. It’s an amazing feature to know where the people who matter most (and their expensive devices) are.

You can also share location via the Messaging app with anyone over iMessage. To do this, open a person’s call and tap the name or profile picture. Then press info and select to Share my current position or Share my location.

Finally, I agree that iPhones and iPads are easy to carry and almost always with you. Thus, it is better to divide your position using these. But that does not mean you can not share your location via Mac. For this, open System selection and click Family sharing. Then click on from the left sidebar Location sharing and enable or disable it for the desired members.
