The Main Event
Max "Blessed" Holloway (20-4) is a featherweight champion, and sixth on the UFC's total pound-for-pound ranking. He returns to featherweight to defend his title after a loss in his last match, which was a failed attempt to become two division champions. In a unanimous decision, Dustin Poirier won the temporary lightweight title by beating Holloway in the Fight of the Night of UFC 236. The Hawaian native blends kickboxing, Muay Thai and Jiu-Jitsu to become a dynamic and unpredictable fighter. Holloway is a strong game favorite, but far from a sure thing against a tough opponent.
Frankie "The Answer" Edgar (22-6-1) is a former UFC Lightweight champion seeking a return to the top of the ranks. Since losing the title of Benson Henderson at UFC 144, Edgar has fought in three other title games this week, losing them all. However, he has won three of his last four bouts. Frankie has a background in boxing and wrestling, but is not a classic finisher with knockouts or submissions. Although 17 of his 30 professional matches have ended with decisions, he still has the skill and power needed to complete an enemy of one blow if they fail the guard. Holloway will have to maintain the defense at all times.
Watch when Frankie Edgar does a quick job of Chad Mendes with a knockout that is so amazing that it earned the award of the Night Award in 2015.
Here's the plan for this split event:
- Early Prelims: 18 : 15 Eastern on ESPN +
- Prelims: 8 pm Eastern on ESPN
- Motherboard: kl. Eastern on PPV
- Post Show: 1 am on ESPN +
UFC 240 also has an important featherweight fight for women, when Cris Cyborg (20-2) faces Felicia Spencer (7-0). Cyborg wants to bounce back from her first loss in 22 straight games, where she lost the title belt to Amanda Nunes at UFC 232. Her otherwise impressive record is filled with huge wins as well as a doping violation and accusations of further drug use. Cyborg has even got others refused to fight her for these reasons. It's no problem for Spencer, who is fighting in only his second UFC match. A win here would be a big step up for the undefeated fighters, and put her in a position for a challenge to Nunes for the championship.
The rest of the card, which can be changed as always, is as follows: Main Card Pay Per View
- Geoff Neal (11-2) vs. Niko Price (13-2)
