Wanted to do a little test for everyone in the subgroup who might be interested in how far you can get with just a Series 6 Apple Watch on mobile data.
A little about the settings I had turned on:
Always on screen off
Background update: just the most important, messages, Facebook messenger, email, weather, news, stocks, music, maps
Screen brightness 50%
The sound off
During the day, I read and / or responded to dozens of texts, emails, news, stocks, Siri commands, used Apple Pay, GPS, listened to stored music, a few podcasts, checked Reddit and Twitter occasionally. Logged in to Amazon to check the tracking of a package.
I got 14 hours and 16 minutes before it finally died. GPS seemed to drain the battery the most, my headphones use Bluetooth 5.0, which has little power, music had very little or no noticeable impact on battery life from hour to hour. Below is a comprehensive overview of an hour after hour.
7:00 – 100% battery
8:00 – 96% battery
9:00 – 89% battery (2 Apple Pay purchases)
10:00 – 84% battery (listened to 1 hour of stored music + podcast on Bluetooth 5.0 headphones)
11:00 – 77% battery
12:00 – 70% battery (1 FourSquare search, 7 minutes GPS)
13:00 – 59% battery
14:00 – 54% battery
15:00 – 51% (Listen to 1 hour of stored music Bluetooth 5.0 headphones)
16:00 – 43% battery (listened to 1 hour of stored music + podcast on Bluetooth 5.0 headphones)
17:00 – 37% battery
18:00 – 25% battery
19.00 – 19% battery
20.00 – 10%
21:00 – 4%
21:16 – Dead
Conclusion. One can easily manage through a whole day on a series 6 Cellular without other data options, enjoy music without consequence, text, message, check news and shares, short training sessions, use Apple Pay.
When you start using things like GPS, streaming music, phone calls or other HEAVY data using tasks, it starts tearing through the battery.
If you can connect to WiFi for a couple of hours throughout the day, I see no reason why you can’t go a full 15 hours on a single Apple Watch charge with responsible app usage.
