You also need a good internet connection, an empty flash drive that contains at least 16 GB of space, 30 GB of free space, a Windows 10 ISO file, a Mac Admin account to access Boot Camp and 40 GB to upgrade from an existing one Windows version. Once you have read about everything and followed the prerequisites, you can take these steps:
Step 1: Go to the Windows Media Creation Tool.
Step 2: Select ‘Windows 10’ -> ‘Confirm’ under ‘Select Edition’.
Step 3: Select language and select confirm.
Step 4: Links for downloading Windows 10 ISO for 32 and 64 bit will now be visible. Choose the one that suits you (64-bit if your Mac is new).
Step 5: Insert the flash drive and press ‘command + space’ to start ‘Boot Camp Assistant’. You can also do this by searching via ‘Finder’. Then select ‘Continue’.
Step 6: Check all the boxes if this is your first installation, or do a clean installation. Uncheck the first box if you are trying to upgrade from a current version of Windows, before clicking continue.
Step 7: Select the ISO file you downloaded, select the destination for the flash drive and click Continue.
Step 8: Now wait for the process to complete. In some cases it takes an hour or more.
Step 9: When the process is complete, you will be prompted to partition. This step is important and can not be undone. Choose the right amount, add 20-30 GB if you do not want to use this Windows much, or expand accordingly.
Step 10: Now select install and wait for Windows 10 to restart a few times.
Step 11: Now you need to choose where to install this version of Windows. Select the partition titled ‘Boot Camp’ and then follow the on-screen instructions.
Step 12: Enter the product key when prompted. This key will be in your email that Microsoft sent you when you requested an upgrade to Windows 10, or ask a friend for this key. Remember that users of Windows 8.1, Windows 8 and Windows 7 can upgrade to Windows 10 for free.
Step 13: When done, you can switch between Mac OS X and Windows 10 by restarting your Mac. Just press the ‘alternative (alt)’ key, and you can choose between the two.
