iPad Pro vs. iPad: What should you buy this holiday season?



Now that we are in full vacation shopping mode for 2018, a common question that has arisen is about iPad Pro or 9.7-inch iPad is the best option for most. IPad Pro is certainly the most complete iPad, but the 9.7-inch model is far less expensive, especially with ample holiday discounts.

iPad 9.7-inch (6th Gen, 2018)

The 9.7-inch iPad was updated earlier this year at Apple's educational-focused event in Chicago. The device is powered by an A10 Fusion processor and features a 9.7-inch display with a 2048-by-1536 pixel resolution of 264 PPI. Other 9.7-inch iPad specifications include an 8MP rear camera, Touch ID support, and Flash connectivity.

Perhaps most special for 9.7-inch iPad is Apple Pencil support. While Apple Pencil support is limited to the Apple pencil's first pencil here, 9.7-inch iPad marks the most affordable way to access Apple's excellent stylus. This is a major factor for advertisements and students who want to get into the iPad ecosystem.

9.7-inch iPad sells for $ 329, but we see it regularly at $ 249 this holiday season – included on Amazon's brand new Apple Store. At less than half the price of the latest generation iPad Pro, and less than a third of the 2018 iPad Pro award, 9.7-inch iPad is no doubt one of the hottest offers in the 2018 holiday season.

iPad Pro 10.5-inch (2017)

10.5-inch iPad Pro was introduced in June 2017, and Apple continues to sell it for $ 649 as a cheaper alternative to the new 2018 iPad Pros. The 10.5-inch iPad Pro is powered by an A10X Fusion processor and has Touch ID support and quick connectivity.

Thanks to Smart Connector, the 10.5-inch iPad Pro also supports Apple's first generation Smart Keyboard accessories. While expensive, this keyboard is a great way to make iPad Pro more MacBook-like. There is also Apple Pencil support, but only for the first-generation model – about 9.7-inch iPad.

In addition to the new iPad processes, Apple introduced a new Smart Keyboard Folio and Apple Pencil. Smart Keyboard Folio is significantly stronger than its predecessor thanks to a new range of magnets, but it is also pricer. Meanwhile, the new Apple Pencil offers features like motion, magnetic charge and a matte finish.

The 11-inch iPad Pro starts at $ 799 for 64GB – a $ 150 price increase over the previous generation. The 12.9-inch iPad Pro starts at $ 999 for 64GB.

11 inch and 12.9 inch iPad processors are perfect for those looking for the best of the best and looking for something that can serve as a traditional computer replacement. They are certainly costly, but for a particular segment of the market, they are worth it.

For most people, 9.7-inch iPad should be go to this holiday season. Whether you buy for yourself or buy for someone else, it's a great value, and Apple Pencil support makes it even better. It's not so flashy when it comes to design or power like iPad Pro, but it's able to handle everything like most people want to throw it on.

10.5-inch iPad Pro is more difficult to recommend this holiday season, especially at Apple's $ 650 retail price. If you're going on the iPad Pro route, it's hard for us not to recommend the new iPad Pro models . This is largely due to the significantly improved Apple Pencil and Smart Keyboard Folio. At the selling price – for example $ 603 on Amazon – the 10.5 inch is a little easier to stomach, but the benefits for most over 9.7-inch models are slim.

At the top of the iPad chain are 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pros. They are the most powerful and visually appealing iPads Apple ever made, and if you're looking for something that has the potential to replace a MacBook, they're definitely the way to go. To give a holiday gift, the beginning of the $ 799 prize gives you a pretty steep, but you get what you pay for.
