Kuo: New Apple Watch design coming no earlier than 2021, 120 Hz iPhone expected next year

In addition to what can be expected of Apple this year, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has also outlined what may be on the table for Apple in 2021. The analyst speculates that a “significant change in form factor design” could come to Apple Watch so early. as the second half of next year.

Kuo explains that Apple Watch Series 6 is expected to be similar to the form factor Apple Watch Series 4 and Apple Watch Series 5, with the “most important selling point” for this year’s upgrade as the addition of oxygen measurement in the blood. Looking ahead to 2021, however, the analyst writes that he expects a “significant form factor change would come with new Apple Watch models by 2H21

at the earliest.”

Kuo poured cold water on expectations that the iPhone 12 series will have 120Hz screens, citing concerns about battery life. The debate over 120 Hz will continue until 2021, but Kuo predicts that the 2021 iPhone series will adopt 120 Hz technology.

According to Kuo, the iPhone 13 (or whatever it ends up being called) will adopt LTPO technology to lower the screen’s power consumption. In turn, this will give Apple battery power to enable 120 Hz functionality next year. Apple first adopted the LTPO – or polysilicon and low-temperature oxide display – in the Apple Watch Series 4, so it makes sense to expand the power-saving feature to the iPhone series next year.

Finally, as we noted earlier this morning, Kuo also expects Apple to bring Touch ID functionality to the side button in several iPad models starting in 2021. iPad Air 4 is expected to be the first Apple product with Touch ID in off / on on button. , and mass production will begin in mid-September.
