Location services and weather: AppleWatch

I had some questions regarding location services and use of the weather forecasting program.

First of all, I use an iPhone 6 on 12.1.4 and an AW Series 3 on 5.1.3

When I'm using the modular face with the weather and having location services put on my phone, the phone battery seems to drain noticeably faster than when I turn off location services. I speak below 50% after 5 hours, where I usually go all day and end with 75% before I had the clock. I have the weather app set to "when you use", but I'm guessing that when it's on my face's face, it always uses placement.

I haven't had this problem until I got an Apple Watch as far as the battery drains going.

So, is it all I can do to reduce the battery power on my phone, except turning off location services?

Is a paid weather report like carrot or dark sky reducing battery usage on the phone? [19659002] Is this a case of the hardware (iPhone 6) that is too old and doesn't play well clockwise?

I would appreciate some info to point me in the right direction.
