macbook pro – Attempt to disable Thunderbolt extensions on Yosemite 10.10.5

I just started having this issue with the 15-inch Macbook Pro with Retina display in mid-2014, and I have tried updating a few processes and reset the factory, but still have the issue.

I tried trying to disable SIP to disable the Thunderbolt extensions, but it looks like it was nothing before a later operating system. Is there a way around this without having to travel to Catalina? I prefer not to, so I do not lose access to certain 32-bit applications, but if there are no other options, there is not much I can do.

Thanks for the advice / help in advance!

Edit: I have tried the following:
-moved /System/Library/Extensions/AppleThunderboltNHI.kext to the desktop, which made a copy
-locked and logged in as root user
̵

1; went into the terminal and used
kextunload /System/Library/Extensions/AppleThunderboltNHI.kext
-locked the root user again and restarted

Edit 2: Did the following:

  • Opened terminal at normal user login, used
    sudo kextcache -system-prelinked-kernel
  • Enter password to confirm change, then:
    sudo kextcache -system-caches
  • Restarted.
