The Vega upgrade is only available in $ 2,799 15-inch MacBook Pro. The $ 2,399 15-inch model continues to offer a Radeon Pro 555X with 4GB of GDDR5 memory as the storage configuration. You can upgrade to a Radeon Pro 560X with 4GB GDDR5 memory for $ 100. The 13-inch MacBook Pro uses integrated Intel Iris Plus graphics.

The Vega upgrades were revealed in the press release of the new MacBook Air. Apple says the new options are "up to 60 percent faster" for demanding video and graphics.

Processor, Memory, Graphics, and SSDs

The MacBook Pro touch panel uses Intel's Coffee Lake processors. Coffee Lake is Intel's eighth generation processor, replacing the seventh generation of Kaby Lake processors that were in the previous MacBook Pro.

In addition to new processors, Apple now uses DDR4 RAM in MacBook Pro, which is faster than DDR3 RAM in older laptops. The maximum number of RAM-supported jumps up to 32 GB in the 15-inch model, twice as much as the predecessor. 16GB is the style max in the 13-inch laptop.

Apple has also upgraded MacBook Pros graphics hardware. The 13-inch standard configuration models only have an integrated graphics processor, either Intel Iris Plus Graphics 640 or Graphics 655.

The 15-inch models feature the same integrated Intel HD Graphics 630 processor as the 2017 models. They also have stronger discreet graphics: either a 4GB Radeon Pro 555X or a 4GB Radeon Pro 560X.

The solid state drives (SSDs) range from 128 GB to 512 GB in the standard configurations of the 13-inch MacBook Pro. In the 15-inch models, you start with either 256 GB or 512 GB. You can upgrade the SSD to up to 2TB on the 13-inch MacBook Pro, or up to 4TB on the 15-inch MacBook Pro.

Touch Bar

Apple has six default configurations of MacBook Pro. Four of these models have Touch Bar, a strip that is located where the function keys usually lie on the top of the keyboard. The touch bar is an OLED display that illuminates with different icons, buttons, and features that you can use in relation to the tasks and the app you use on your Mac.
