macOS Big Sur is not here yet, but Apple has released a useful update for MacBook
Apple has had a busy week pushing out a slew of software updates for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch owners, but Mac users were probably disappointed by the fact that macOS 11.0 Big Sur did not release at the same time. This groundbreaking Mac upgrade was announced in June along with iOS 14, iPad OS 14 and see OS 7 at Apple’s annual developer conference.
While all other Apple operating system upgrades are now available to users worldwide, Big Sur will not be released. This is not unusual. Last year, macOS Catalina arrived several weeks after iOS 1
In fact, Catalina was officially released on October 7, 2019, and it looks like Big Sur may be heading for a similar launch date. Apple will never reveal details of the operating system releases until a few days before they become available, but it is highly likely that we will hear more news about Mac OS Big Sur in the coming weeks.
Apple has already promised to launch new Macs powered by its own specially designed processors, called Apple Silicon, before the end of the year. So it’s pretty safe to assume that the Cupertino-based company will hold a new media event in the coming weeks to unveil the latest Mac hardware – a good opportunity to talk about macOS Big Sur in more detail.
While you may not have all the shiny new features on your Mac yet, Apple has announced the release of a new upgrade to Safari that is available for download today.

The US company says that Safari 14.0 introduces new features, even faster performance and improved security. Once installed, you will find a new tab design that displays multiple tabs on the screen and also displays favorite icons.
A customizable homepage lets you set a wallpaper and add new sections plus a privacy report that now shows tracking tracks across sites blocked by Intelligent Tracking Prevention.
To get the latest version of Safari, just click System Preferences in the Apple menu and click Software Update.
Then you will see a button that says Update Now. Click on this and the installation will begin, although it is worth noting that Safari will need to restart before the features become available.
Of course, this is a small update compared to what comes in Big Sur with this release that gives major changes to the design of this operating system along with bonus features like improved messaging and customizable menu bar that has a brand new control center.
Speaking about the changes, Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of software engineering, said: “macOS Big Sur is a major update that promotes the legendary combination of the power of UNIX with the usability of Mac, delivering our biggest update to design on more than one decade.
“With its modern and clean look, major improvements to key apps, including Safari, Messaging and Maps, and new privacy features, we believe everyone will love the groundbreaking experience that macOS Big Sur offers.”
Express.co.uk gives you a full release date as soon as we hear more.
