Third-generation Apple TV users now experience crashes when stopping YouTube videos, and others have intermittent AirPlay issues that include freezing and sound only across a blank screen. The only solutions are to wait 90 seconds for Apple TV to go out and reload the Home screen, or to restart Apple TV either by pressing the Menu and Down buttons on the remote control at the same time or by cycling the device. There are also issues loading Apple TV + apps promoted in What to Watch at the top of the Home screen, although they load well when opened from the Apple TV app.
It is apparently possible to downgrade a third generation Apple TV, but it requires some potentially faulty software downloads and connect the Apple TV to the Mac.
And the Remote app has been ruined by 3rd generation Apple TVs for years.
