With the recently released versions of MacBook Air and Mac mini, Apple said they could run a 5K screen running at 5120 by 2880 resolution at a refresh rate of up to 60 Hz. It sounds good, but if you have assumed you can be rolled out and buy a 5K screen, you may need to think again.

In short, the LG UltraFine 5K screen appears to be the only 5K display you can buy today and you have to order it online, seeing unseen. If you can wait, it's possible that LG will have a new model and Apple has said that it will be released an Apple-branded professional display with the revolutionary Mac Pro in 2019.

It's hard to see that it Wider screen industry gets behind 5K shows in a big way at this point. Apple often publishes new technologies before other companies, which sometimes make Apple's engineers work in advance, and at times Apple's products end up with technological cul-de-sacs.
