Those of us who work fairly constantly in Dark Mode have understood that white is black and vice versa when we work with text, but we continue to rely on color. Any image editor that inverted the colors or light values just because you switched from one mode to another would be ridiculous. Still, it's pretty good what Apple's standard text editor does and without having to change mode yourself.[…]
A small experiment shows that instead of using TextEdit the color you chose, it chose the purple acid instead, but just to fool you when a dark background is activated, it changed the display color to what you thought you were using.
