It has been a while since we have seen some updates for the unc0ver jailbreak tool; The latest update that was released was version 1.1.4, more than three weeks ago. However, despite what turned out to be a sudden stop in quick update releases, iOS hacker Pwn20wnd seems to have been hard at work with another update for the iOS 1
The public beta of unc0ver v2.0.0 has announced by Pwn20wnd via its Twitter account on Thursday and signals what anyone may consider to be a major update for the jailbreaket and many of its internal mechanisms:
Citing Pwn20wnd's official unc0cver GitHub repository, v2.0.0 of the jailbreak tool, causes the following changes and improvements:
- Initial support for Cydia Substrate (not yet published by Saurik)
- A switch to install OpenSSH
- A switch to install Cydia
- A button to restart SpringBoard when it is not in jailbroken state
- Opportunity to update jailbreak tool components OTA
- A bootstrap update
- An abundance of bug fixes and stability improvements
- Fix for Yes Ilbreakd Error
- Battery Life Improvement
- Power Reductions by Electra LOP (19009005)
- Improve Speed on system upload
- and much more …
While the update is available to anyone willing to install a public beta, we recommend sticking to the final release unless you are an advanced user and know exactly what you do .
From Pwn20wnd's Tweet we can gather that the public beta is supposed to help hack test some of the tool's most important changes step by step. He will use user generated bug reports to identify and fix errors and crashes so that the final release of unc0ver v2.0.0 will be as flawless to most users as possible.
Provided that unc0ver v2.0.0 is mostly flawless, Pwn20wnd says we can expect an official public release within the next few days. The public beta is available for download at Pwn20wnd's GitHub depot.
Unc0ver is a semi-untethered jailbreak just like Electra, which means you must run the tool after each reboot. In addition, it includes a newer Saurik-approved version of the Cydia Store that runs better on iOS 11.
