Ransomware attacks on a healthcare company slowed down clinical trials

Cyberattacks on the healthcare industry cause more headaches. The New York Times reports that clinical trials declined after healthcare provider eResearchTechnology suffered a ransomware attack two weeks ago. IQVIA (a research firm that manages AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine work) and Bristol Myers Squibb (leader of an alliance developing a rapid COVID-19 test) were two of the biggest targets.

Both IQVIA and Bristol Myers Squibb said the impact of the attack was “limited”

;, in part thanks to data backups, but other eResearchTechnology customers apparently had to track test patients using paper. It is not clear if malware affected any COVID-19 trials.
