Samsung goes back to mocking Apple, this time over the power adapter and 5G

Did you know that there are smartphones out there that support 5G, and that they were on the market before the iPhone 12 series was announced? Well, Samsung is not afraid to remind you.

Samsung, one of the leading competitors to Apple’s smartphone devices, is certainly no stranger to mocking Apple for certain decisions. There was a time when Samsung taunted Apple for not having expandable storage, or removable batteries, for example. There was even a time when Samsung taunted Apple for not having a 3.5mm headphone jack in iPhones.

Samsung has followed suit with most of these things now. Current Samsung smartphones do not have a headphone jack and they do not have removable batteries. As for the headphone jack, Samsung even removed the ads that mocked Apple after launching the Galaxy Note 10.

But it’s 2020, and here we are again with Samsung mocking Apple for its latest efforts with the iPhone series (via MacRumors).

The power adapter goes the way of dodo (sort of)

Samsung approached its social network earlier this week to post a few different things that swung at Apple. First up, the power adapter. As you know, Apple has removed the power adapter and wired EarPods from the case of the iPhone 12 series. The company also removed this accessory from the iPhone 11, iPhone SE and iPhone XR boxes when purchasing a new device. Reason? Having a positive impact on the environment, according to Apple. The company says the change will reduce carbon emissions, both by eliminating accessories and being able to shrink the iPhone box.

Per Apple’s website:

Throughout the iPhone family, we remove the power adapter and EarPods, which are often unused, but include the fast-charging USB-C for the quick-release cable that most people need. It shrinks the packaging, and more boxes per shipment means fewer shipments in general. We also transfer our production partners to renewable energy. In total, this eliminates over 2 million tonnes of carbon emissions annually.

But apparently this is something to mock, because Samsung is ready and willing to go for it. Over on the company’s Facebook account, it has a new marketing line of its own: “Included with Galaxy”. In this case, it is just a picture of the power adapter. Samsung points out that they are still sending the power adapter with the Galaxy smartphones, which apparently thinks the company puts it a class above Apple.

This is especially funny and ridiculous, because there are rumors out there that Samsung will increase the power adapter from its future smartphones as well. This change may even take place in 2021. And if Samsung follows its track records with releases, we can see it happen in February or March next year. Which means Samsung can get around. . . four months of mockery before doing the same as Apple.

Say hello to 5G

Yes, one of the selling points of the iPhone 12 series is that it has 5G. It is certainly not the first smartphone to do this, and Apple did not suggest that it was. But that does not mean that Apple should not market the new feature, and try to make it sound great to try to spur upgrades (although 5G in the US is not good yet!). But Samsung takes the time to go ahead and remind people that the iPhone is “late” for the party, and apparently ignores the fact that Apple also has an annual refresh rate.

This 5G spotting is not as ridiculous as the power adapter, but it’s still silly nonetheless. Just because Samsung can say it was “first” with a 5G smartphone compared to Apple, does not mean that anyone will switch from iOS to Samsung’s taste of Android. Or maybe it will! As long as the person is happy, that’s all that matters.

In any case, these are just silly marketing freaks. What do you think about Samsung’s move here?
