Apple prevents Epic from releasing updates for distribution on Mac, which means that updates for Fortnite: Save the World will stop.
According to Epic, this had ended the opportunity to offer Fortnite: Save the world updates to the game on Mac. If Mac users install the next update to the game on their system, v14.20, it will “cause errors for gamers”, resulting in “a very bad experience.”
“As we are no longer able to sign updates and release fixes for these releases, as of September 23, 2020, Fortnite: Save the World will no longer be playable on macOS,” Epic said.
Save the World Starter Packs are no longer available for purchase on macOS.
To ease the pain a bit, Epic reimburses everyone who purchased Save the World Founder̵
Epic notes that it may take up to 2 October before your bank account reflects the refund.
Any purchased V-Bucks used on Llamas on Mac during this period will also be refunded.
“No action is required on your part to receive the refund, and you will keep previously purchased V-Bucks and items in your account,” the note continues.
“Players will still be able to play Save the World on PC, PlayStation and Xbox. Thanks to cross-progression, your heroes, forms and everything else on your home base will be automatically transferred across supported platforms.”
Fortnite: Battle Royale is still playable for Mac users at this time on the v13.40 build, but no longer receives version updates due to Apple’s policy against Epic.
This is just the latest in an ongoing feud between Apple and Epic Games, which began with Fortnite being removed from the App Store due to Epic releasing a hotfix that allowed players to bypass the App Store payment system.
Epic tried to get the courts to return the game to the store, but it remains off and Apple has terminated Epic’s developer access.
