Star Trek: Picard & # 39; drops some great surprises at Comic-Con

Fresh from San Diego Comic-Con, we just got our first taste of what can be expected from Star Trek: Picard the last in Trek I want to be exclusively at CBS All Access. Those who attended Hall H had to watch the trailer – twice. We've got to see it here, now.

(If you are outside the United States, you can see the trailer here.)

So the basic core, as we see it: Picard is old and retired, but something just isn't right. (If we had to guess, the stars are waving, he is no longer on the earth, the ghost of Data is hampering him, and his former crew members are still doing their thing as he approaches the end.) So a young girl finds his way to him, and he must protect her from something. What makes her so special?

Something, something BORG.

So it almost seems like a Trek-ified Firefly ? It is not the worst premise in the world we assume.

The only bad news here? We must wait until 2020 for the premiere.

And, as expected, we got some serious big surprises on the SDCC panel. Jeri Ryan and Brent Spiner were in that trailer and will represent their roles in the series. The former was a favorite of Seven of Nine from Star Trek: Voyager and the latter of course played Data under Picard's command, in Star Trek: The Next Generation and sacrificed in Nemesis film.

Also led back to the serialized series ̵

1; Jonathan Frakes (Picard's second command in TNG ) and Marina Sirtis, who played the ship's adviser Troi in TNG .

Sir Patrick Stewart took the stage in San Diego along with castmates Santiago Cabrera, Michelle Hurd, Isa Briones, Evan Evagora, Alison Pill and Harry Treadaway, and producer Michael Chabon, to talk about the upcoming series.

Stewart talked about how he had previously been denied to return to the Trek franchise several times before, but refused – until he learned what was planned for this new series.

"Patrick has been a partner with the authors from the beginning," showrunner Michael Chabon said .

Also at Comic-Con we got our first look at the return of Star Trek: Short Treks . Six new shorts return to CBS All Access this fall. They want Ethan Peck (Spock) and Rebecca Romijn (number one) from Star Trek: Discovery along with Anson Mount as Captain Christopher Pike in three USS Enterprise-themed shorts.
